What causes kidney stones?

My mom just called me moments ago, saying when she went to the doctors, they did a urine examination and found out she had a ‘Kidney Stone’ though, she had extreme pains yesterday and feels fine today. Though she still needs to get blood work done next month, just curious, is there other ways it occurs, other than caffeine intake?

You can get kidney stones just from not keeping yourself hydrated - 8 to 10 glasses of water every day.

While I was deployed a few years back, we had a guy develop kidney stones in our last month there. We were all deployed from Las Vegas where in the summer it was 115. So 125 degrees wasnt too bad. Anyways our drinking water was supplied from Saudi Arabia and marked as mineral water. Everybody drank a lot, nobody ever dehydrated, the kidney stone guy would drink more water than me and I was going through at least 7 bottles (16 oz) each work shift (14hrs). I suspect that some peoples bodies just process minerals intake less effeiciently than others.

Yeah this is her first and she went through the pain yesterday and possibly the small sized stone passed, but she still has to get test done and such. But thank you for your response^^

Answer #4

I think a build up of calcium in the kidneys causes them. My friend had 7 kidney stones removed from him one time.

Answer #5

dayum…my mom can’t have anything that has Vitamin D, since that causes kidney stones. Thanks for more info, we’ve actually looked up causes and a lot of the foods they added were part of our health style..;c So as of now we’re gonna back up on ‘em for a while.
