I heard this joke a while ago about Americans. Tell me if you find it amusing or not, and why :) If you speak three languages, you're trilingual. If you speak two languages, you're bilingual.
...if you speak one language, you're an American. Me, I'm bilingual (English / Spanish) and lived in a Spanish speaking country for nearly a year. So, do you find the joke funny?
You could also be hispanic... j/k! I think racial jokes are funny about any race (as long as you're not racist and telling them to be mean, cause that's just wrong)! But, you shouldn't be so serious that you can't take a step back and laugh at yourself sometimes! Obviously your whole race isn't going to fit the steriotype, only very closed-minded people would believe something like that!
I think there's something very dry-witted about that joke. It's not side splittingly funny, it's very subtle.
But you'll find many people find it amusing- one thing I've found while traveling is that nearly every country enjoys mocking Americans- not to say I haven't met some lovely people there!
Not really funny but insightful. When I toured through Scandinavia all the young people I met spoke at least two languages and one 18 year old woman I met spoke 5 languages and was in medical school (not pre-med). Made me feel like a slacker.
I think it's not so much funny as it is insightful. I speak English and French and I find I appreciate cultures a lot more than I would had I not taken a foreign language at school for so many years.
Most middle school/high school students these days speak two or more languages, because usually it is required.
I am trillanguial and american. So I really don't find it funny.
I think it's funny. I'm bi-lingual and American, but I still see the humor in the joke, and it's harmless.
yes its harmless, its still not funny to me
