Is there any reference in the bible, to a prior civilization?

There is much talk from scientists, and those who believe in evolution, that this world has actually existed for many years, before the biblical account, given in Genesis. Is there any mention of this, or reference to this in the bible? What about other sources?

Interesting topic. I used to read books that talked about Atlantis, which was supposedly in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. There is little evidence that a great civilization existed where they say Atlantis is. Some evidence suggests that there was something east of North America. There is a place near Grand Bahama Island where there is a collapsed causeway going down into the ocean. Proof? No, but what is it and what happened?

The Bible says that the flood was caused by rained AND the fountains of the deep were opened up. A cataclysmic event. The canopy of water over the earth was released as torrential rainfall for forty days and nights, and the earth itself was squeezed in someway to push water from below. Was the earth smashed by an asteroid? Is this what tipped the earth to a 23 degree tilt on the axis?

Sooo… there may be a civilization buried beneath the Atlantic. There may be one buried under the Pacific called Lemuria. Who knows? I mean who REALLY knows?

The Bible talks about Cain travelling to the land of Nod after killing Abel. This suggests Nod pre-existed, from a Biblical perspective.

Silverwings, are you aware that ancient Jews understood Genesis to be an allegorical myth? This isn’t a guess, we have ancient texts that explicitly tell us this. Young earth creationism is not a Biblical concept, when you understand the stories in the context they were written.

Answer #4

I don’t know… but a lot of people don’t know.. NO ONE KNOWS! except god! so all these questions your asking, you never can be sure that they are true awnsers!

Answer #5

Asking for reference to it in the bible is odd, given that that’s the very text cited to justify a 6000 year age for earth.

I’m also not sure what the point of references in other ancient texts is. What significance does what people thought hundreds or thousands of years ago have on how old the earth really is? We can tell from geological and astronomical evidence roughly how old the earth is - we don’t have to rely on what ancient peoples thought was the case.

Sorry, I posted in the wrong category, maybe someone can move this question to Religion & Spirituality, where it was intended to go. Thanks.
