Is it bad that hamsters don't play on their wheel?

Is it bad that hamsters don’t play on their wheel? My hamster used to always go on its wheel, it would run for hours. But now she NEVER goes on it, is this a bad thing?

Answer #1

Maybe she would like the ball instead. and she can roam all over the house. I think average life is 3 to 4 years.

Answer #2

No she isn’t old. She’s not even a year old yet : ) And she not really fat either, my sister has a hamster too and its a lot bigger than mine :3

Answer #3

maybe it just got bored of it?!

It might not be the same, but I have a cat and we got her a toy that she absolutely loved, but now she never bothers with it and won’t play with it, and she’s absolutely fine!

Answer #4

this is very bad if they don’t get enough exercise they could have a heart attack. be sure to put him/her on their ball and let them run around the house

Answer #5

I’m guessing your hamster has gotten fat and lazy…try evening play times, out of the cage, in a safe area like a bathroom… encourage play and moving around…to keep him/her healthy… maybe be careful with food amounts and weight. Most of us way over feed our hamsters. …and they’re bored stiff in cages. Try to improve his life with enrichment areas and toys… and make him work for his food more. And remember…they don’t have very long lives…so he may be getting old.

Answer #6

I never thought about the wee wee. it makes sense but I would give it a shot anyway.

Answer #7

I don’t know how long they live, is there the possiblity that she’s getting old??

Answer #8

harleyrider,

I might just do that : ) The thing is though I don’t want her to be scared in the ball because hamsters wee when there scared and they get covered in it when they roll around :S

Answer #9

if it pees in the wheel you can always clean it off just make sure to dry it so it doesn’t get ill. they love rolling around in the ball,,, just make sure the lid is on tight so it doesn’t go in the vents and have some fun under the house like mine did for day before we found it … haha
