I have been seriously ill with an illness that caused extensive nerve damage. I am heavy, have a slow metabolism, am only semi-active and take lasix already for high bp. I am on lyrica and morphine for the pain from my nerve damage. The morphine makes me really sick, so my husband (who is a chronic pot user) suggested I try it. I used it for 3 days, then went to my pain specialist who said that the last time I drug tested a month ago the morphine didn't show up. I already drink a ton of water, take my lasix (80 mg. Per day) but I eat less than 1000 calories a day because my metabolism is sloth-like. When I am scheduled for the drug test it will be exactly 20 days since I smoked...will I be clean? Also, how long before the drug test should I take my morphine so that it will show up? My appt is in 3 days...help please!!!
I wish I could feel comfortable just telling the doc, but the very reason he is giving me the drug test is because my morphine didn't show up, and testing neg for the drug he is prescribing as well as testing pos for an illegal substance is grounds for dropping me as a patient. He knows my husband smokes already and had warned me, but my drug test wasn't supposed to be for another 3 m, so I thought it was safe to try it, big dummy that I am. He had prescribed phenergan for the nausea, but it made me so tired I couldn't function, so that's why I tried the pot. I won't do something so stupid again, and had already quit when I found out about the re-test...I guess I just want some peace of mind that 20 days of not smoking plus the fact that I drink lots of water and already take a very strong diuretic means I have a better than average chance of testing clean for the pot.
If the pot is helping you by reducing your pain, then I wouldn't worry about the fact that you aren't using the morphine. If your pain specialist says anything just explain to him that the pot reduces your pain without the side effects that the morphine gives you.
He may not even be testing for pot when he does your drug test.
You might also check into whether Ohio is one of the states that allows for medical use of pot. If it is, then you can get a prescription that allows you to have a small amount of it in your home.
As to your question, you said you are heavy, so it is likely that the pot can be detected in your tests for up to 5 or 6 weeks.
You have some serious medical problems. Talk with your doctor. Pot can do certain things, but there are medicines that will do them better. Plus if you are taking things that your doctor doesn't know about, he (or she) can't do the best job of taking care of you. Don't ask NON-medical people what to do. You wouldn't ask them to remove your appendix, would you? Doctors want to help. They don't want to see you be miserable. Trust your doctor. Talk to him. Ask HIM these questions. Good Luck!!
I have been taking the morphine...I just used the cannabis to help with the nausea...I have been on the morphine for 5 years..I am only on 15 mg at a time, and the last test for it was negative cause I use so little and I was late for my last dosage.I wish the pot helped with the pain, but it almost seems to make the nerve pain worse :-( thx for the advice tho...I am really worried he will drop me if I test pos for pot...
okay, well first of all, you should always discuss everything with your physician. if you are not comfortable, change doctors. your doctor should be aware of everything you are taking. second...why in the world is your physician testing for your morphine intake? that is very irregular and quite honestly doesn't make sense.
Then tell him that you need something to control the nausea which is why you've been using the cannabis and maybe he can prescribe something for you.
