How to improve my asthma?

Ok, so I have asthma and now that it is winter I have a chronic bad cough and have been sick for probably the past 4 weeks (on and off). I will be seeing a pulmonologist (lung specialist) in about a month or so, but in the meanwhile I am wondering if anyone has any advice on how to get my asthma to improve.

I do use my current medication exactly as I should, exercise for the moment is out for me, because it just makes me sicker. So I was wondering is there any foods in general that I should avoid that makes asthma worse?

There are probably specific foods that have an effect on you in particular. My mother cannot eat tamarind, her asthma flares up whenever she does. You might want to look into whether your asthma gets bad after any particular foods (as annoying as it is, a food diary and a diary recording flare ups may help). Some common allergens are dairy products, eggs, soy products, nuts, sea food and wheat.

Asthma deals with the lungs & whole upper respiratory issues not really much on food intake…what may be causing your asthma to worsen is if you have dust around the house…dust is a major issue for people like us that suffer from any upper respiratory issues like allergies, bronchitis & asthma…keep the whole house clean because even just a little dust is enough to cause dust mites to have a field day and that will cause an @ttack! Specialists will tell you certain foods may also cause issues but everyone is different only blood work will help determine which foods or herbs for that matter you should stay away from…I know the specialist told my dad to stay away from 3 major things…dust, cats & oregano…I have the same problem…so it might be the problem…also keep yourself warm if you feel cold get dressed warm keep sipping on warm fluids suck as tea or chicken broth…those will keep you warm. Another thing is hot showers & hot baths…make sure you wear a robe instantly after them…and get dressed warm or stay under a heavy blanket to keep warm.

hope this helped!

Thank, we don’t have an unusually dusty house, we have no carpets and the animals mainly stay outside, plus I am so allergic to cats that we do not even own them.

‘Asthma deals with the lungs & whole upper respiratory issues not really much on food intake…’ Uhm yes, but there are allergens that can trigger allergies (oh, and yes, that happens to have an effect on the respiratory system).
