I wouldn’t go with buying online, you want to hear how the bass actually sounds. You’ll want to physically test various types to find one with a good tone and fret action.

if you have a Sam Ash near you you should try them. they have some really good and cheap basses

First, I would check out your local pawn shop. They usually have a few bass guitars around. Try ‘em out. See how they feel in your hand. Check out how they sound. Then you can pick one out that suits your tastes. And you’ll also get a heck of a deal. If this doesn’t work, go to a music store, and do the same things. I would not buy a guitar on-line, because you never know what you are going to get.
