I drink and cannot get drunk too. Is there an enzyme missing?

I found this website by typing in the same question. I drink all kinds of alcohol and cannot get drunk. When I turned 18 and was legally old enough to drink, my older brother and his friends took me to a bar to make me drunk. They came home throwing up. I had no effects. So it becomes not worth it to buy alcohol, parties are not so funny if everyone else is ‘happy or tipsy’ and I am not. Is there an enzyme missing in my stomach that causes this? This is what a pharmacist suggested to me one day. I would like to know if there is any truth in this? I am now 22 and many people have tried to make me drunk, but it just doesn’t happen. This happens to me also, but only with rum - I can drink several bottles and never feel a thing.

I’ve been told that it has something to do with the smell of the rum - some sort of immunity to the particular form of alcohol.

This is the first I’ve heard of enzymes, but it’s an interesting theory.
