How to deal with mom having surgery?

Well my mom just had surgery. She got her gallbladder taken out. It is a regular procedure. It’s just hard because she can’t walk she is in so much pain. I’m trying to stay strong because I feel like I’m the only one making an effort to help. She is coming home from the hospital tomorrow. She can’t do anything the next couple weeks. I have to cook her meals do the dishes, laundry, anything she needs. Plus all my school work, take my dance classes. I just don’t know how I can stay strong through all of it. What do you guys suggest I do?

I went through the same thing: standard procedure, yet lots of pain. It is hard when a parent has surgery, as you realize how much they do for you and how much you will then have to do on your own. I know it is hard to stay strong, but remember, she is going to be all right and get through this, and so are you! It may feel as though you are the only one making an effort, but I’m sure your other family members are just as concerned and stressed as you. The best thing you can do for her is spend time with her and let her know that you love her. You are her child, and she knows you are not capable of taking on ALL the things a mother has to do, plus all of your regular activities. To make things more efficient, use your spare time to prepare. When you do her laundry, do yours too so you don’t have to do more than one cycle (plus you save water). Use the weekends to go to the supermarket and get dinner for the entire week. Cook it all and then put it in the fridge so you can just heat it up on busy nights. Use plastic silverware and plates to avoid doing dishes. Try to get homework done in car rides to/from school and dance. Also, make sure you get LOTS of sleep! I’m sure she will appreciate all you are doing for her, and you can always ask your dad, siblings, grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. for extra help. It will not be an easy few weeks, but I am confident that you will get through it. Good luck to you and your mom, and feel free to fun mail me if you want to talk! :)

Hey im sorry 2 hear about your mom…my mom had hers out 2 its not so bad tho a lot of my relatives had theirs out..the pain is just a normal thing that will take time 2 get rid of what they do is cut smalls holes and use a camera to take out the gallbladder bc it was shooting stones…which hurts pretty bad so I hear. My mom’s proceedure was only a day surgery so im not quiet sure whats happenin with your mom. they pretty much cut the holes and air fills up the cavities which when they sew up the extra gas is still in her body which causes a sh*t load of pain…so it just takes time be pacient and your doing well helping her already. good luck!!!

I can relate to your situation. over the past 2 years my mom has had 4 hip surgeries, 3 on the same one. we don’t know why her bones keep breaking either. my dad had shoulder surgery 2 days ago so he is recovering from that. just be there for your mom. after all, she has taken care of youfor as long as you’ve been alive [I hope]. this can bring yall closer together. if she needs something, just get it. it might get frustrating after awhile but just bite you tongue and do it. I have homework and practices and work all the time, but when my parents need me, im there. stay strong, pray about it.
