How should I convince my parents to get a puppy?

I have this old dog, from when I cant remember. Our dog Duke is a huge dog old dog with hip problems, so when I was little I couldnt walk him or run him or try to train him because he was to big for me and im kinda short. I never got to apprreciate him and stuff, so I really want one. I have asked my parents and they say, “not with Duke! We’re not having another dog.” Also my cousin just got another puppy thats a goldendoodle and is an exellent dog. I dont now how else to convince my parents. Though my b-day is coming up soon.

This is harsh but…I wouldnt get a new young puupy till the old dog passes away. Having a Puppy around a dog with a broken hip or just an old dog can injure the old dog. Also if the old dog feels jealous & forgoten he will commit suicide…yes dogs do that…My dog did. && its the worst feeling ever. But when he does pass away, ask your parents again. && I agree you do have to prove responsibility. =]

Answer #2

Prove responsibility first. Then do some research about what breed of dog is good with aging dogs (or even kids if you can’t find an aging dog category). Try a local animal shelter. That is where we got our baby from. He came neutered and with all of his shots for $40 (AWESOME Deal!). He would have been $80 but he was the pet of the month. Maybe help pay for vet visits and food as well. Make sure they know that this idea is not shortlived, that even after you get bored, you will still care and do all of your responsibilities. So many people get bored with an animal and dump them or take them to a shelter. Hence some of the overload in our kill shelters

Answer #3

They said no…accept it.

It’s their house and they make the rules. If you keep pestering them, you’ll only make them angry.

They may be planning to get a puppy when Duke is gone, but trying to deal with a puppy at the same time as having an old, unwell dog is a lot of work and you should respect your parent’s decision.

Answer #4

Well, my parents had solid “no” but I wrote a debate syaing the reasons why I should be able to get one, and within an hour, my parents “no” turned into a “maybe in a few weeks” and for my parents mean “You can, but we’ll be watching”

I give you the best of luck!!

Tips:

Make it look like you worked really hard on it, and professional, but every parent is different
