how old does my pitbull have to be to have puppies?
Ok...you "potential breeders"...news flash...
Just because your dog is Purebred, DO NOT mean it should be bred!!!
Does your dog fit the standard? Hows his legs, are they cowhocked, pigeon toed? Does his temperment fit the standard of the breed profile (being happy with you, doesn't make a socialite)...
If you don't even know how old they should be before getting bred, I'm going to assume you don't know anything about bringing pups into the world...their care, the care of the dam (mother)...during pregnancy...
Do you know how to pick a stud dog? Does HE fit the standard? How's HIS temperement?
There's way more to it than sticking male and female togerther...
They kill more Pits at the shelters than ANY other breed of dog...
All that said...your dog will not be mature enough to breed (tho she'll come into heat at 6 or 8 months)...until her third heat.
Kyser, thats not what he asked. a lot of people would rather have a full breed than a mutt. Not me, but a lot of other people. If my pit mix was a pure bred I would take advantage of that too. She is brindle with a couple of little white spots(refer to my pictures) but she os 1/4 boxer. -_-
Anyway, they can start breeding around 6 months to a year. =]
phrannie, I beg to differ.
I bred a pit at 6 months, and she was perfectly fine. Yes you need to meet the standards set by the AKC or whatever country you live in, but a dog does not have to wait until they are in their third heat.
I agree he should do more research before breeding an animal, but you do not need to repremand anybody.
madmantha - phrannie gave excellent advice! Just because you opted to breed your dog early, doesn't mean that is what is in the best health interest of the dog. And yes, phrannie is correct, there are TOO many pits in shelters that are eventually euthanized. Someone should think long and hard before breeding.
This is one of the questions you should already know the answer to, if you plan on breeding your dogs. Please get your dogs fixed and leave the breeding to the professionals, who know exactly what they are doing and who are breeding for the right reasons!
You can have it neutered at six months old. Best thing for it. With thousands of strays and unwanted dogs why bring in any more?
im not positive but I used to breed boston terriers and after the females 2nd time in heat she should be able to breed
little old to be dating dogs aren't ya?
dont they have to be 1?? x
I think its a 1yr old
