How long until we have robot servants? When I was a kid, I alwasy thought it'd be cool to have a robot servant. No need to worry about paying them (robots don't have feelings), no need to worry about them taking a vacation (they're not going to need time off), etc.
I'd really like to get one - I know we have robot lawn mowers & carpet cleaners, but what about robot cooks & robot maids? Any idea on how long it'll take to have those?
Such ideas were more popular when the Space Race and Cold War inspired governments to spend money not only on the the military, but also on science and technology. In 1957 the first dog was launched, and in 1969 man flew to the Moon. Eeryone though we would soon be on Mars. We would have been by the mid-late 1990's if the public interest and money had allowed.
Robot cooks could probably be made now (mind you it wouldn't be adroid-ish) but the cost and maintenance would probably be so ridiculous that a human maid would be better. But perhaps in the future it can be done.
We already have robots that will sweep for us. http://store.irobot.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=2542771&tab=vacuuming
