How greatly would sperm cell deformity affect a child?

Sperm cells (depending on the person and how well he takes care of himself) can come out with deformed sperm cells, is this a contributing factor to child deformity? if so how great of a risk is it?

Or is it just caused by the egg, when fertilized not properly splitting and ending up conjoined? Some feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

Answer #1

It probably contributes but many deformities occur later when the unborn child developes

Answer #2

Deformities are in fact very largely based on genetics, so it doesn’t matter how f*ed up the sperm may look, as long as they got all the genes together in the right way, no worries. Does your family have a history about deformities?

Answer #3

Well it probably would have a significantly negative impact, but you have to remember the odds of not only this sperm fertilizing an egg, but then the zygote implanting and the fetus surviving 9 months to be born is very low. That’s why there are so many spontaneous miscarriages. Overall, unless there’s a particularly strong genetic mutation that is being passed down, it is not very likely.

Answer #4

Deformities are largely based on genetics. Actually all deformities are in a manner of speaking. Mutations can occur from either the egg or the sperm. Genetic mutations can cause anything from klinefelter’s syndrom, to a higher susceptibility to certain types of cancers. Some mutations are not visible by the eye, or phenotypically expressed, and others are very easy to see such as down syndrome.
