How effective is the pill?

I’m thinking of trying out going on the pill because I’ve been using condoms with my boyfriend and a lot of the time we don’t have one when it’s a good time… There’s no problems with STDs and I know that’s one of the pluses of condoms, but I was wondering what the pluses of the pill would be? I want to know how effective the pill is and any good advice for what I should expect if I start taking the pill. Does it stop being effective around the time of my period? and if someone could tell me like facts rather than just their opinions it would be very helpful, but opinions will help too! thankyou for any advice you guys give me it’s greatly appreciated !

The pill works to stop you ovulating but the pill does trick your body into thinking it is pregnant. Depending on which brand you use, most require you to take the pill actively for 21 days, then for 7 days you go on the sugar pills. Just be mindful at the beginning of any ‘fresh’ packets of the pills and towards the end of the packs, are the most critical stages because if you are not careful, your body does not absorb the pills and you can fall pregnant.

Personally for myself, I use both the condoms and the pills as I don’t want to ever fall pregnant but everyone is different. So if you prefer to use the pill alone and no condoms, then it’s really your choice.

Word of advice, do not doctor ‘shop’ as some pharmaceuticals companies gives free medications to the clinic centres, hoping they will push their products to their patients.

When I first went on the pill, I didn’t feel comfortable going to our family doctor as I didn’t want my parents and step-parents to know and booked to see a random doctor near our place. He didn’t book me in to do any tests but gave me some boxes of pills that he took from his cabinet without charging me and asked me to try this brand out and come back to see him in 3 weeks time.

When my boyfriend read the pamphlet and saw how many negative side effects this particular brand had, he wouldn’t let me use it and we ended up going to our family doctor who did book me to see a pathologist for tests and the pills I’m taking has less side effects.

P.S. Mate, sorry about the long winded answer, hope I didn’t put you to sleep. :)
