how do you do standard index form?

my maths says: rewrite the folloiwing in standard form. 1) mercury is 694000000km from the sun - how do I change it to standard form?

2) change this into normal numbers 4.5 x 10 to the power of 9.

1) 6.94 X 10 to the power 2) 4500000000

how you do it: 1) the power number is how many numbers there are inbetween the end of the number and the decimal. the decimal goes after the 6 because the number has to be between 0 and 9.9 2)its basically the same, but there's a small difference. Each power numbers represents a 0. so you use one of the power numbers to times 4.5 by 10 to get 45. then you stick 8 more 0's on because thts the power number you have left. 694 000 000 now count how many time you move the decimal to the left to get 6.94 (It's 8) so the Standard form of 694,000,000km = 6.94 X 10 to the power of 8.

4.5 x 10 to the power of 9

Just move the decimal place 9 places to the right.

So 4.5 x 10 to the power of 9 = 4,500,000,000
