How do I know if she's pregnant?

She could be. A trip to the vet to find out will be good if you don’t know how to feel for pups safely.

So what happened?

Dogs are pregnant for about 64 days, and often don’t “show” a rounded belly the first month. However, being “breasty” around the nipples, and having a somewhat swollen vulva…are signs that she might be pregnant. She could also be in a “false pregnancy” or static heat..but if she was loose, she was likely bred…by who knows what kind of dog. If it’s a very early pregnancy, you could just have her spayed…which I’m sure was the deal with the pound when you adopted her anyway. Might be much safer for her…and much cheaper than a $ 2000. emergency c-section in case she was bred by a much bigger dog. I’d go to the vet and schedule a spay. If you’ve decided it’s worth the risk, and the huge cost of possible emergency intervention, and possibly having a whole litter of puppies with health defects, or parvo or distemper because mom was likely exposed at the pound… and you have tons of money…then feed her the best to get the “Life’s Abundance” food…to minimize birth defects in the puppies, and MAYBE you’ll have a litter of adorable puppies that people will want…and pay you for…and keep in forever happy homes… Depending on the mix of breeds they end up being , and how cute. Only you can decide if it’s worth the risk.
