How do I help my sister get over her pain?

Last night my sister lost her chihuahua because someone ran him over.she called me crying hysterically. I told her I would get a new dog for her and she said she didnt want any more dogs she wants him back. I told her she couldnt help him now. He is in a better place… But these words arent going to fully cure the whole in her heart… I need help!

Um, my dear friend Megan is, in fact, a sister, not a brother. Lol

thank you all for your advice but I am a female not a male.. and she is partly happy… she is getting a new dog anyway to replace him. and she never got to bury him. her father-in-law threw him away somewhere when she was talking to our other sister… he wont tell her where he threw him away.. which I think is bull crap. she loved that little thing and so did everyone else in our family… but still thank you.

Just wait…I know she’ll eventually get over her loss. I think that immediately going out and replacing her dog may be a little too soon, since she’s still really worked up about her last dog. I think it would be best to wait until she’s better before you go and help her look for a new companion. Luff ya Megan!!! lol

My sympathies to your sister. Just listen to her. Agree that he was the most wonderful dog there ever was. That you also miss him. That it was a tragedy. If you live nearby, be with her when she takes his body to where ever it is going (Vet’s office, burial, whatever your sister plans). Let her cry. It is part of the grieving process. She will recover in time, but it will take time. Have patience. And if you value her friendship NEVER try to tell her that it was “just a dog”. Again, my sympathies, Good Luck!! To most people a pet takes on the status of a family member.
