Could someone pleeease tell me the distinguish between an Atom and an Element. I am confused here :s Help me. I need the answer for my Science tution. Kindly answer the distinguish between an Atom and an Element. I be dead if I didn't get the answer to it by Thursday this week. an atom is a representative of an element. an element describes the number of protons. a specific element has to have that precise number of protons. an atom is an element that contains that same number of protons but different numbers of electrons and neutrons. For example, the element Hydrogen has 1 proton. There are hydogen atoms that have 1 proton and 0 neutrons, others have 1 proton and 1 neurtron, others have 1 proton and 2 neutrons, etc. thus, the atom is the particular representative of that element.
