How do I get rid of spyware

I prefer Ad-Aware but found that there were problems with trying to download the 2008 version from lavasoft.com. Accordingly the following is a Fun Mail that transpired between me and another member:

  I had been running Ad-Aware Free 2007, so I followed all the steps I last sent to you then attempted to download Ad-Aware Free 2008. I couldn’t get it to completely download so I’ve gone back to Ad-Aware 2007 which I downloaded and installed by going to:

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,7423-order,1-page,1-c,antispywaretools/description.html

Under Downloads: Anti-spyware tools and above the Ad-Aware picture, click on the Download Now button.

If a yellow bar pops up above the PCWorld logo that says “To helpl protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options…”

Click on the bar for options then click on Run in the dialog box that pops up.

Again, remember to have shut down all programs and icons in your System Tray before you download the program. Then, before running the program for the first time I’d suggest you restart your computer. You can leave the programs running in your System Tray when you run Ad-Aware.

It.s always a good idea to restart your computer anytime you install or uninstall any program.
