How do I get my old, sluggish dog to play?

I have a beagle and she is turning 9 in June. I feel bad for the poor thing because all she does is sleep. I just got a yellow lad (he’s about 8 months) and he tries to play with her, but she just staps at him. She’s still I sweet dog and would never hurt a fly, but she used to love playing with other dogs. Now every time anyone pets her she shakes and she’s a little over weight. I’m worried.

You should get the weight off…that will help give her some energy. At nine…she’s 63 years old in human life…don’t expect her to play. She’s probably got a bit of arthritus, and an 8 month old Lab is ultra energentic…YOU play with the Lab…and let your elderly girl get her beauty rest.

Shaking can be a sign of pain…when was the last time you had her to the Vet for a health check? Older dogs need to go at least once a year…

Most older dogs sleep a lot.
