Answer #1

Here are some tips for you to avoid getting TSS

  1. Follow package directions for insertion.
  2. Choose the lowest absorbency for your menstrual flow.
  3. Change your tampon at least every 4 to 6 hours.
  4. Consider alternating pads with tampons( use tampons during the day and a pad at night..its much safer that way).
  5. Know the warning signs of toxic shock syndrome which include high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, fainting, or a rash that looks like a sunburn during your period or a few days after
  6. Don’t use tampons between your periods (instead use panty-liners).

Doctors advise that you not use superabsorbent tampons when you’re menstruating. Read the instructions to decide what size is best for you. You should also try to do the following:

Use brands with the lowest absorbency and alternate them with sanitary napkins and panty liners (the Food and Drug Administration now mandates that tampon boxes carry an absorbency “rating”) Keep the bacteria from spreading by washing your hands before and after you insert a tampon If a tampon is irritating or hard to remove, switch to a less absorbent variety Change your tampon every four to six hours Never leave a tampon in overnight Never use more than one tampon at a time
