Lost in translation
How come everytime im on the lanugage translater I write something in english then translate it into french then I translate it from french into english but it always turn my words around? Is their a propa translater that dosent turn my words around?
Wite asap please (y)
^ exactly. languages weren’t developed and based off of eachother. they all have different words, and different ways of saying a sentence. online translators give you an exact translation of every word typed. but I REAL LIFE, languages are different.. we have different grammar..
no like I write, im going to do it + it comes out “im going to make it” nagging + comes out “harrsing” realise im in love with you I cant stop thinking about into “ that I realise im lover of you I turn the stopping thinking of you I miss you a lot “
that sort of thing
what do you mean with turning your words around like this (siht ekil)
ps - more about the Spell Check function:
Here’s a little piece that I usually hand out to my translation classes, to warn against over-reliance on the Spell Check function (it’s best read aloud, at normal speed):
‘I have a spell link chequer hit came wit my pea see it kind lea Marx four miry view miss takes eye can knot sea
Hive run this Poe hem threw hit I’m shore your glad two no it’s let her perfect inn it sway …mice bell Czech Ptolemy sew’
… If you’ve marked your ‘language’ as UK English, it should pass through the Spell Check without problems, except for perhaps Ptolemy (which was already in my computer from some earlier editing work)
Basically ( and I’m a professional translator): the problem is that no human language can be perfectly translated by a machine. (That’s why people like me still have jobs…)
You can programme grammar (including word-order) and spelling rules into a computer, but you can’t programme every possible nuance of meaning, especially idiomatic things.
For example, the online translator you used was probably programmed to see ‘make’ and ‘do’ as synonyms.
Computers, as we’ve come to realize, are very handy, and very quick-. But they can’t reason or think in the same way as humans beings.
By the way, if you’ve ever wondered why your Spell Check gives such weird answers, it’s because the standard vesions are programmed to look only at the consonants in a word (they’re the ones that most people do get right, the vowels are where most spelling mistakes occur) and then suggest possible words using those consonants.
(A classical story, which just might be true: When they were testing out one of the first computer translator programmes, they keyed in ‘Out of sight, out of mind’. The computer happily replied with the equivalent of ‘Invisible idiot’. )
