How can I help with his familys bad habit??

My best friend has always told me that his family always gets fast food to eat because they dont have a lot of money. After I watched the movie super-size me I cried because I thought my friend would have heart problems when he got older and wouldn’t live very long. I changed my eating habits too, I only eat fast food about once a month. But his family has it like five times a week, even though hes only fourteen in really scared for him, will he have heart problems when he gets older and not live very long even if he changes his eating habits when he moves away from his family?? Is fast food okay in moderation or should it not be eaten at all??? How can I help to change his eating habits??? I know im overeacting, but I care about him a lot, and I want a long life with my friend.

It usually depends on what your friend eats, but in general, pretty much most of the fast foods out there are not very healthy for you and should not be eaten on a regular basis. It won’t kill you to eat them once in a while, but a lot of the meals contain high levels of things that people don’t want to consume large amounts of (calories, fats, cholesterol, sodium, etc). In some cases, some of the meal combos have as much as you’d consume all day in just one meal. So these meals should ideally NOT be consumed a lot or extremely often.

With that being said, going to a fast food place often costs a lot more money than cooking a meal at home would. So I’m not really too sure if the money deal is their actual reason, or if it’s just a matter of knowing what to cook and where shopping would be more money saving.

So my suggestion would be to talk to your friend about it to explain your concerns. If they aren’t sure what to cook that won’t cost them a lot, you could always go online with your friend and Google things such as Meals under $10 or whatever their budget is. If you do that, you’ll find a lot of recipes and ideas on what they can cook. The meals are tasty, a lot healthier than fast food, and they would be a lot cheaper for your friend and his family.

I hope this works out for you.

Well, thanks everyone, yeah I don’t know why his family buys fast food all the time since it costs money thats just what he told me. He said he has slimed down, so im hoping that means his family has started to eat less junk. Oh, and he cant really exercise because he has disabilities and its hard for him to walk. But thanx for all the suggestions!!!

Answer #3

Um they eat fast food because they don’t have any money? You waist more money by buying fast food all the time thatn coocking a meal at home. meaby try explaining that.

Answer #4

Make sure that he exercises and then maybe get his family involved, and I am studying the “fast food debate” and FAST FOOD SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A SUBSTITUE FOR A REAL MEAL! Instead of McDonald’s or Taco Bell, try Subway $5 foot long?

Answer #5

Invite him over for a meal or two a week. Express your concerns with other friends, and try and each have him over for dinner once a week for a good home cooked meal.

Answer #6

I thk it depends on wht he eats. if all he eats is greasy food then you can help. tell him to get like a salad or something. and btw taco bell is healthier for you then any other fast food place.:) hope this helps
