Home remedy for 1 month old breathing

My grandson is 1 month old and he is having a hard time breathing. He is taking the little noses and my daughter is also sucking out his mucus but he is still having a hard time. Is there anything home made that might help and not harm him?

Vics vapor rub for babies. I put it on my son’s pacifier (NOT the sucky part- the backside) so that he can sniff it in when he breathes. You CAN put it directly on the skin, but I didn’t know if his skin would be too sensitive right there. Also putting it on the chest helps too. There are 2 types of little noses: saline and decongestant. Try both- do them often. My son is almost 10 months old and I still have to do it several times a day. I also (and my pediatrician would kill me for this, but I’m careful, haven’t had any problems, and it WORKS) use a q-tip on his most horrendous boogers. Just touch the tip to it (don’t ram it up into his nose), and twirl, and the whole mess should come out. Then you can use the saline spray and that’ll really help for a while. Another helpful thing is a humidifier. I’ve found the warm mist ones work a little better than the cool mist ones- but they also promote bacterial growth in rooms and can make a sick child sicker- so only use it every so often and make sure he’s well.

I hope he can breathe easier soon, so YOU guys can breathe easier. It’s hard when they’re so little. :(

Also…make sure you talk to the pediatrician and or advice nurse, as if the condition lasts too long, OR there are details you didn’t include here, you may need professional medical help (as we’re not a substitute for professional advice).
