What do you think of home births?

Would you consider giving birth at home vs. at a hospital?

Answer #1

I was born at home as was my sister and I very much so plan to give birth in the comfort of my home with a mid-wife present.

Answer #2

I would rather give birth somewhere with an anaesthetist. Not sure if I would want an epidural but its nice to know there is the option

Answer #3

I dont think I’d want to. Apart from wanting some sort of epidural, I wouldnt want to be in an emergency situation and no doctors standing by.

Answer #4

Im kind of strange and I like being in hospitals! I like the smell… Although there are some hospitals where I wouldnt want to give birth. Some of the hospitals in Christchurch are really nice and relaxed, so I would want one like that

Answer #5

If my pregnancy had been problimatic I would fully go to a hospital for the birth but if it hadn’t been like I said i’d want to be home but with a mid-wife present, who was fully trained not just someone who decided “you know what I wanna deliver babies i’ll go do that now”

Answer #6

I don’t want an epidural, there are side effects and I heard it doesn’t help as much as it should.

Answer #7

I prefer giving birth in the hospital…if I was at home, it would be too difficult to actually rest.

Answer #8

I DON’T AGREE WITH HOME BIRTHS. WHAT IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG AND THE BABY NEEDS MEDICAL ATTENTION AND FAST. WHY RISK YOUR BABY’S LIFE. YOU CAN HAVE A GOOD BIRTH EXPERIENCE IN A HOSPITAL. RATHER BE SAFE THAN SORRY!

Answer #9

PLEASE! THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN AN EPIDURAL! I HAVE TWO KIDS AND TRUST ME THE EPIDURAL WAS A HUGE HELP! THE SIDE EFFECTS IS NOT LIKELY TO HAPPEN.

Answer #10

If you are a young healthy person and have a straightforward pregnancy than I see no problem with home childbirth. I know several labor & delivery nurses who opted to deliver at home and they are as aware of all the potential problems as anyone.

Answer #11

I think they’re cool. It depends on the individual having them I guess. If there may be complications, or if the woman wants a pain killer, then hospitals are probably the right move.

I don’t plan on having children any time soon, but I was thinking I’d probably want to do it at home. I want to have a water birth. They say it’s easier for the baby. I like the idea of home births because hospitals are never a fun environment.

Answer #12

You could have a doctor present at the house. It would be difficult to arrange if you don’t have a doctor in the family or as a close family friend, but it could happen. If you know there’s a predisposed risk, then I’d say you’re definitely right. However, if there’s not and you take the right precautions and do your homework, then I’d say it’s not as dangerous as people make it out to be.

Answer #13

Okay, is your keyboard on caps lock?

Answer #14

Personally, i prefer to deliver my children in hospitals. More power to the women who choose home births, but i couldnt. I would be a nervous wreck. Not only do you have more pain options and emergency care if something were to go wrong, but you dont have to clean up behind yourself, worry about making a mess and ruining things (anyone whose had kids knows how much blood and fluid comes out of your body that first time you stand up to shower or pee), and i dont feel id get enough rest at home as i would in a hospital.

Answer #15

I guess I figure there’s only so much a midwife can do. Even if the risk is minimal, I wouldnt want to take it. But that is a personal choice. As far as I know the large majority of home births go just fine.

Answer #16

they sound more peaceful in a way, kinda like a more freindly enviroment. i watched a show about women who give birth to babies while in water. i dont really know what that does but it seems to make the children more peaceful

Answer #17

I’d have to vote in a hospital for the same reasons as listed in above answers. But it’d also be kind of cool to think that everytime you walk into your house, your walking into the place that you were given the greatest gift of all: a child.
