Is a hole in gum after tooth extraction normal?

I had a wisdom tooth extracted, and since then have had complications. I have gone back twice, each time for stitches. The first stitches were to close a small hole in the back of the gum, caused by a bone (not a fragment). He also stitched the extraction site after packing the hold for dry socket.

The second time was yesterday, because the first broke open and the hole got a lot worse. Literally, the inside of my gum where the tooth was is gone. Mostly, at least. This time, however, he didn’t stitch that up. He just stitched the extraction site after packing it again. I thought he wold stitch the hole in the gum, too, but he didn’t. There is a bone (a good amount of it, too) left in the open due to the missing gum. Pictures are below, if you care too look.

My question is this: Is this normal? Some people have said not to worry about it, but haven’t said anything else. Does this happen often? Is there a reason he would not have stitched it up. Honestly, I thought he had until I got home. Anything I need to do to help it heal?

Answer #1

A small one is ok but if it gets really big and is causing discomfort then probably not normal

Answer #2

Rinse about 20 times a day with salt water. This should keep it clean and the more u rinse the faster it will heal. DO NOT USE mouth wash.
