HI! krystalooo is definetly on the right track!

For bread, look at the ingredients, if it says anything other than “Whole Wheat” as the first ingredient, try to find something else. For more info on “enriched bread” check this http://www.breadbeckers.com/enrichment.htm

As to fruits and vegetables… more is better, organic is sometimes better, wild is best! Locally grown “usually” means less processing/chemicals, but not always. Lots of proof that variety is key to getting enough of everything your body can use to heal it’s self. Natural dark, deep colors and bright colors ( not enhanced) have a wider variety of nutrients than their paler counterparts. We eat only whole wheat at home, avoid ( not totally but 90%) breads from restaurants, wild game & fish, fruits, vegetables, from produce stands & gardens. We have cut way back on pork, focus on lean beef from the store and venison when we can get it. We drink MonaVie to add more variety to our fruit intake and adding this also decreased our desire for junk foods as a side effect! We both ( my wife and I ) found after being on the juice for about 2 months, that we didn’t want Macdonald’s /Burger King/ etc any more. And when forced to eat it due to location/travel etc, that we didn’t tolerate it well. Not sick, just sluggish feeling, like adding weight to a runner! My wife (R.N.) noticed she was sleeping better and her knees didn’t bother her as much. I lost 35 lbs and kept it off for 2 years now. No, I am not rail thin, but all the indicators are in the green. Anyway… Because of the decrease in nutrients found in most of the foods in the grocery store, you really need a good vitamin supplement too. And 99% of what is in Kroger, Publix, walmart, etc is just junk. Go to GNC, or get some from Shaklee, Nutralite, USANA, or another good source.

I can get you more info if you want. Most people are Calcium deficient because they think they will get it from milk or cheese. They are Vit. B deficient because of white bread/ no or little fruit diet, coupled with high sugar intake, alcohol and stress. They have copper deficiency due to lack of minerals in soil where food is grown.. ( most plants remove 25-60 minerals from soil as they grow, agribusiness farming only puts back 3!)

They are constipated due to lack of dietary fiber, and too much processed meat. And the list goes on and on! While we have the safest (short term) food supply in history, the long term effects of nutrient depleted foods are just starting to show.

Hope this helps.

The more colour (or the darker) veggies/fruits are the more vitamins and minerals they have for you.

Iceberg lettuce is awful - has no nutritional value and ruins the whole point of having a salad.

Anything with white flour is BAD for you (white breads, white noodle pastas, chips, etc.) Whole grain flour (wheat, seven grain, etc) is very good for you and helps you feel full longer. You can get wheat noodles (or spinach and tomato, yum![those are the noodles I get from Trader Joe’s]) which not only makes your pasta meals much more yummy but helps make them healthy.

I’ve found that countries that don’t eat pork have a WHOLE lot less diseases so I try to stay away from pork. Beef seems to be alright, but stick to the lean beef.

There are many many more but that’s all I have for now. Maybe I’ll come back to this question later with more ideas.
