he wont tell me when he have to go

My son is 3, I’ve been trying to potty train him for the last year in a half. He actually have no problem when I tell him to go to the bathroom. The problem is he wont tell me, I have to constantly send him to the bathroom, and he says pee pee or po po I tell him what ever he has to do. He is still in pull ups because he have accidents. Like I said at home he wear underware because I can stay at him but this have been going on for over a year. What can I do to keep him in underware at home and at school? Also to tell someone he have to go?

Honestly, i think he’s just not READY to be potty trained. He clearly has the idea if he’ll go when you get on him, but honestly you can’t force a child to potty train, they simply will when they’re ready. Be sure to use positive reinforcement with him as that will help as well. However my advice, as a mother of 3 is to be consistant but realize there will be failures and setbacks. Ask him, don’t tell him, and take him randomlly as well and don’t just rely on him telling you he has to go, because he probably wont, you have to ask and initiate.

I’m not a parent but I’m going to try and help you on this one anyway. I just think that you need to get it into his mind that he has to tell some adult that he needs to go potty and he needs to go right now. Let him know that when he does let an adult know so he can go, that there will be a reward at the end for him. He’s got to know that he’s doing something right and a reward will let him know that. It’s all new for him so he’s probably confused.
