Is it harmful for a pregnant woman to take medicine for a cold - all within the first few months?

Answer #1

You shouldn’t take any meds and it depends which one, some are worse than others so check with your doc and again you shouldn’t take anything while pregnant

Answer #2

Every medicine comes with a description. If a woman is pregnant, then she should read that before taking the medicine.

It usually says something about pregnant / breastfeeding women in the description. In the same part where side effects and interferences with other medication are described.

Some medication it safe for pregnant women. Some medication should under no circumstances be taken by a pregnant woman. Some medication needs to be supervised by a doctor. Some medication is harmful to the baby in certain months of pregnancy but harmless in other stages.

It is best to

  • read the description thoroughly
  • talk to your doctor
  • ask a midwive or the person at the pharmacy about the meds
  • if anything is unclear, ask again and get a second opinion
  • or call the hotline of the company that produces the medication

When everyone tell you it’s safe and OK, you can take the meds. If not, you should only take what your doctor tells you to take.
