what can happen if you give your child away?

Answer #1

It depends. If you legally give your child up for adoption and surrender your parental rights, then nothing will happen to you. If you illegaly just give your child away to someone without the proper documents you will be charged with child abandonment and child neglect and spend years in prison.

Answer #2

why would you want to. that is a living breathing being that you brought in to this world. that baby started as on of ur cells and when it was furtlised that cell became half you and half the father. but the baby was in you for 9 months. he/she is a part of you!

Answer #3

Kithara - if a parent feels they can not financially or emotionally care for their child in the proper way and that their child would be better off with another stable family, that is the most responsible and mature things they can do. There are kids out there starving to death, being beat by their parents, dealing with their parents dr.ug and alcohol addictions, and being mentally abused all because the parents were to selfish to give the child up to another family. Just because someone carries a child and gives birth doesnt mean they are fit to be a parent.

Answer #4

Because like Mandyloo said if u can’t afford a child how r u gonna feed them? It really is the most mature thing to do, nobody said it wud be an easy decision, its a very difficult decision to make, but doin the right thing is most impotant for the child

Answer #5

well yes but if you can care for a child and you just think you dont want one then follow my advice.

Answer #6

Even if u can care for a child doesn’t mean ur ready for one, it takes a lot to be a parent, I wud rather my parents give me away rather than resent me for the rest of thr lives for keeping me if they weren’t ready, I feel I deserve better than that

Answer #7

I’d like to add that most states have “Baby Moses” or “Safe Haven” laws now.

Parents who find they can not care for their baby can drop off their baby at designated places like hospitals, police departments, fire stations (varies by state) and in exchange for relinquishing their parental rights they are shielded from prosecution for child abandonment.

These laws were put in place to help babies who would otherwise be endangered.

Answer #8

That wasn’t advice. That was an opinion. Exactly what do you think happens to children who are not wanted? How do you think they get treated? I’ve seen how children get treated when the parents want them! I can’t even imagine how they get treated when they’re not wanted. It is far more responsible and loving to your child to give it up if you believe that someone else can do a better job of raising it.

Answer #9

Nothing? As long as you give up your child in a safe place. Like a hospital or a fire station. Most large cities have anonymous drop offs where you can leave your child without having to provide any information. Nothing will happen to you. Realize though that once you give up your child, depending on the laws, you may only have a limited time to change your mind. Once the time is up, that’s it. So think about it.

Answer #10
