First, realize it'll take 5-7 days - about 4 if you drive more than 14 hours / day (which most don't wan to do).
Next, make a list. The usual suspects include: Water bottles. Ice Chest. Snacks (chips, cookies, etc). Toiletries (shaving kit, personal hygeine, etc). Changes of clothes for 5 days, minimum (hotel laundry service is easier than elsewhere, but, costs a fair penny...). Beverages (gatorade for rehydration, energy drinks, etc). Fully charged mp3 player. Paper map (for redundancy). Emergency road side assistance. Up to date insurance cards...(just saying). Iphone car charger as well as other iphone / mp3 player accessories, so that you can listen to your full media library on the road. A few audio books (for when the music gets old). List of landmarks you'd like to see, locations, etc, so that you have those plugged into your GPS, or mobile. ....that's all I got so far, I went from Oregon to New York, cross country, and if I had this list, would have been more fun. :) Of course, mobile media wasn't as good 11 years ago.
