God and Time

Psalm 90: “For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past and like a watch in the night”.

This says that for every 1000 years on Earth it is like 1 day to god, doesn’t this insinuate that there is something bigger than god, and that even he has rules to follow?

Answer #1

Does god forget the details as well?

God delights in forgiving and forgetting. It’s a deliberate choice He made when He gave His Son. Forgive them Father= please forget the details

Answer #2

Salam,

Quran supports this claim too :) 1 day to God is like thousand to us.

Answer #3

Please read this verse to get the full picture.

2Pe 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

God dwells outside of time. This is a way of saying that He is not bound by time.

Answer #4

We are finite beings, meaning, we have a beginning and an ending, God, however, is infinite, meaning he has no beginning nor no end, neither is he limited by time, therefore, time as we know it, does not mean the same to God.

God does have rules, and he is holy, that is why sin is so abhorant to him, and the rules that he created the universe by, and maintains it by, are so important to him, that he had to pay his own price, to redeem us.

Answer #5

johnny I do not agree with your interpretation of the psalm, but what you and toadaly both did was associate god with having to follow time, which was the man point that this gives the impression that god has to follow these rules, and if you believe in him (I don’t) undermine his authority and validity.

Answer #6

Good lord, these quasi-atheists really make me want to take up religion full time again. There’s even more irritating than fundamentalists at times.

Answer #7

It just seems like a figurative comparison between finite and eternal life… nothing more…

Answer #8

The only reason the past “seems like yesterday” to people, is because we forget all the details in between.

Does god forget the details as well?

Answer #9

Actually it means that when you live forever, a day feels shorter. Which makes sense, yes?
