Getting Drunk

I went and got drunk last night and I can’t really remember the night’s events. I was wondering, when you get to the point where you can’t remember stuff after drinking - does that mean that you have damaged your brain cells in some way? Or it’s just a normal part of getting drunk? Cause I often forget parts - or sometimes all of the night! Am I right in being concerned..?

Answer #1

Blacking out is usually a sign of serious long term alcohol abuse …but not always. It’s definitely a sign you drank way too much.

Answer #2

It is the result of damaged brain cells. One ounce of beer or wine will kill about 20k brain cells by the time the alcohol completely passes from your system.

Answer #3

I’m irresponsible and have a drinking problem..? :(

Answer #4

No - it does not happen to everyone when they get drunk. It happens to irresponsible people who overindulge and have a drinking problem.

I’m a recovering drug addict/alcoholic. I have experienced so many blackouts I can’t even count them. It’s not safe, it’s not funny, and it’s the sign of a drinking problem. It also harms your brain - if you can’t remember something that is a sign of brain cells being destroyed.

Answer #5

alcohol is damaging to your brain even if you dont black out and still remember what you did the night before. Drinking increasing amounts decreases your brains ability to lay down new memories which is why sometimes you simply have no memory of what you did the night before. Going out and having a few drinks is fine but you need to be responsible and not over do it, it can cause numerous health problems in the future.

Answer #6

It’s not a “normal” part of drinking. Blacking out is very bad for your health and it’s the first sign of alcohol abuse and over indulging. Once you start “blacking out” that is when you have a drinking problem and you need to lern how to indulge without going overboard. You are taking it too far and it’s very dangerous not only for your health, but for you life. If you can’t remember what is happening, how do you know your being safe?

Answer #7

ANYTHING could have happened to you while you were out - why be concerned ? - aids, pregnancy, drugs, abuse, etc might be a little reason.
