# What is a function in domain and range?

I magically passed algebra last year......

Do you mean what is the domain and range of the function?

If so, the domain is the values of x in which the function reaches. The range is the values of y the function reaches. When you are writing the domain and range you have to write where the function never reaches.

Say you have the function f(x)=x^2 Plot that on a graphing chart or on a graphing calculator. You should get a parabola with a "U" kind of shape, with the vertex of zero. Like this: http://funadvice.com/r/16afqdjk0pm

Now looking at that graph you can see where the function goes and where the function never appears.

Domain: On the x-axis the function goes both into the positive and into the negative.

Range: On the y-axis however, the function ONLY goes into the positive, and not the negative, while it includes zero.

So now you have to write out hte domain and the range. Both the x and the y values include real numbers so you write this.

Domain: x∈ R And that's it for the domain because x covers ALL real numbers.

Range: y∈ R || y ≥0 That's because y does not include ALL real numbers, it only includes the real numbers of 0 and up.
