What is "financial aid" for college?

a friend of mine told me to apply for financial aid does she mean it will pay for my college classes?

Answer #1

yes, go to Fafsa website and fill the form up they have deadlines too. it supposed to set u set up for loans and stuff like that for college. I’m not a expert at this i’d suggest u to go visit ur counselor at school and ask her/him about fafsa and financial aid. hope this was helpful i know its kinda vague as i don’t know alot about Fafsa myself. somebody else might have a better answer

MOST DEF ask someone who has done it before to help you. It is confusing as all get out. You will scream at your computer for hours… Also, make sure you get your acceptance letter from FAFSA before signing up for classes. I signed up and my college counsilor told me I should get my letter and to go ahead and start classes, so I did. Stupid letter never came. So by the end of the semester, running around like a new freshman with no idea what to do, I take my final exams, and get a $3,000 bill from the school. Fafsa then sent me a “We are sorry to inform you… You were denied the money” letter. AFTER I WAS ALREADY DONE! So I had to pay out of pocket. Make sure you get help. It does help for those who do it right and are eligible. But a lot of it depends on your parents income.

thanks! what do u mean for hrs? HOW long is the form? what type of questions do they ask? I am nervous i already finished 2 classes and now i registered for 3 class for summer..i am running out of money..i am afraid if they deny me cause my dad’s income is a little over 2,000 dollars..

Answer #4

its long as in sometimes u don’t have the answers right away… for example my dad had to go to his accounting office and fill the financial part of it. For me it took about a month to fill the form up and submit. Partly because my dad took a while to got to the accounts and the accounting people took some time and i got lazy etc After filing the form the college accepts it and asks for more details. Right now my university is asking for more family income details and my dad is taking his own sweet time filling the form up. questions r like about u, ur income, ur family, # of people in ur house and family income etc etc

Answer #5

Also there are some scam websites out there pretending to be FAFSA. Make sure to use the legitimate website. http://funadvice.com/r/3js7q9a81c

Answer #6

You’re better off talking to someone at the college - if you call and ask to speak to someone about financial aid, they’ll know how to direct your call. Don’t make the mistake of assuming they will pay for college … most financial aids are actually “student loans” that you need to pay back.
