What does it feel like to give birth naturally without any pain medications/interventions?

Answer #1

Of course I’m no expert, but I think it is most likely very painful. i think there are special mental and emotional preparations women may go through first to “get ready” for it. I admire any woman who can give birth, but if they do it that way……..I’m speechless.

Answer #2

It is by far the most painful thing I have went through, on a scale from 1 to 10 the pain is a 20

Answer #3

I had a 72-hour labour without intervention … it was pretty painful, but with the proper coping methods, you can control your tolerance levels. However, I wouldn’t call it the worst pain I’ve ever endured … I’d rather be in hard labour than suffer through a migraine.

Answer #4

Some women tell me that labor is excruciating while others tell me that it really wasn’t that bad. Some women even claim to become aroused and climax. FWIW, one of the reasons doctors traditionally used the medication Versed on women in labor is because with this med they usually didn’t remember it and doctors were afraid that if women remembered how painful labor was that they wouldn’t have any more kids.

Answer #5

I did it twice. All natural, without any medication. Yes, it is very painful, and you’ll say “Never ever, ever again” directly afterwards.

But your body gives you some sort of hormone-overkill-flash that makes you forget all the pain. It doesn’t go into long-term memory at all. I don’t know how exactly that works. But I do not really remember any of the birth pain.

Of course I remember the facts - quite detailed - about what happened during my 2 sons births, but I have absolutely no memory of what it actually felt like.

It is also very useful to learn some meditative breathing-techniques. Some midwives teach those. I took basic baby-healthcare and meditation classes when I was pregnant the first time.

Answer #6

Well thats a comfort, I hope I see it the same way as my whole first trimester was hellish migraines haha.

Answer #7

I want some of your memory loss for the pain, I remember just like it was yesturday. After the delivery I said no more kids and went on birth control immediately. There was no way I was gonna do that again

Answer #8

Very Painful. I know someone that did natural birth and then ended up begging for meds.

Answer #9

I don’t know exactly how that memory-loss stuff works. I understood from my midwife that it’s some hormonal mechanism and that it also has something to do with the hormones that trigger milk production. You’re supposed to forget birth pain. But she also said that is works best if you give birth in stress-free surroundings.

Answer #10

Yeah mine was kinda stressful, started very active labor right away and it didn’t quit for 7 hrs and only stopped after my daughter was born

Answer #11

My mom said everything hurts except your hair :p
