What does giving birth feel like?

I’m 8 1/2 months pregnant and I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice or information on what exactly it feels like “down there”. I’m quite nervous because I don’t think I could take the pain. I heard it feels like tearing or burning. What do contractions feel like?

My daughter is now 9 months. I honestly don’t think it was that bad! The only part I was nervous about before I had her was having to get stitches from tearing or them having to cut me. But I ended up not needing any! She was SO tiny that I only tore a little. It wasn’t even enough to get stitches.

I was in labor a day and a half before my doctor would let me come in because my contractions were so sporadic. Let me just say they don’t feel too good. It’s kinda of a crampy, burn in your lower back and inner thighs. It feels like your tightening you stomach and can’t stop! But honestly, if you just breath it out, it’s not as bad as if you hold your breath.

As for the labor itself, I had an epidural. It was too hard to relax without one, and I didn’t even feel them do it because I was so focused on breathing through the contractions. I had her in 2 1/2 hours. The nurses said that I was born to have babies because everything went so well. The longest part was when the doctor was working on taking the placenta out.

I feel it was all a piece of cake! You’re a woman. You were built for this! In the end, you get to hold the baby and you’ll forget about everything that you went through for that moment!

Just make sure to follow the doctors instructions on caring for the area ‘down there’ to avoid infection. And the ice pads they give you in the hospital to sit on…take a bunch home with you! It’s probably going to feel like you’re bruised in that area and those pads REALLY help!

Good Luck Hopefully I’ll be seeing some pics up of your beautiful baby in a month or so!

I have had 2 children. They are teenagers now, and labor feels great to the pain they are in my butt now! LOL.

My daughter was my first child, weighing in at 6 lbs 13 oz. I had her natural and she was a breeze. I got to the hospital at 4:30 she was born at 6:19. She has always been impatient. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t something that you want to feel down there everyday, but just knowing that I was giving birth to MY baby was just about all of the drug I needed to get through it. Then came my FAT little baby boy that had shoulders as broad as a grown man. Labor was 14 hours long, and I BEGGED for an epidural. After that it was fine. I will tell you this, if you decide to do the epidural, don’t wait 10 hours into it to have it. Plan ahead so that they can have it all lined up and no waiting and it is easier when your labor starts rather than when it is so intense because the epidural itself is painful, leaning over when you are in the middle of a contraction from hell is not easy. I had to have 2 epidurals because the first did not take.

You will see that it really isn’t is as bad as tv makes it look. It is the most wonderful, and most precious thing in the world. ( Not only that, when your kid gets older it is SOOO great to throw it back at them when they are being obnoxious teenagers. Good ammo for guilt trips! That is a mom’s best defense.) I am just joking about the guilt trip thing. Being a mom is hard, but there is nothing in this world that I enjoy more. My kids are my everything. Take every moment to hold, kiss, and cuddle that precious baby. They grow up so fast. My daughter will be graduating this year. She is a beautiful young woman, and it will be so hard for me when she leaves.

Congrats to you, and never fear… you will be just great.

I have 3 kids and I’m pregnant with my 4th. Had them all naturally WITHOUT any form of anesthesia. my choice. I wanted to feel everything because babies go thru a lot too and I didnt want to spare myself when I knew the baby was going to go thru the same thing without anethesia. It’s not easy. It’s hard labor to say the very least. the pain is blinding. BUT… once its over, and the baby is in your arms, wow. the memory of the pain doesnt even last for 10 minutes. Its replaced by pure motherly joy. enough to bring tears to your eyes. And you know in your heart, you and your baby endured it together. :-)
