What is your favorite cookie recipe for the holiday season?

I have a good bit of free time on my hands these days and my mother in law is getting us a freezer as an early Christmas gift so I’ll have plenty of time and space to bake lots of stuff this year. What recipes do you recommend? Nothing too hard or expensive.
