Family help

Well the other day my niece wrote that the person she looks up to is me. I felt really proud but when she started to say that I didnt smoke or drimk or do drugs I started feeling bad because I do thats stuff…when I was home I went out for a smoke and she caught me, she started to cry and said I was a liar now I dont know what to tell her…how can I explain it to her that I do that stuff

Answer #1

Tell her that sometimes adults need to blow off steam. Explain to her that smoking is the way some adults do that. Also, explain to her that smoking is not the healthiest way to blow off steam. Tell her you are sorry for your contradictory behavior.

Answer #2

Answer #3

it sounds like she’s at an age where morality is very clear cut… things are black or white… smoke = bad person… it is hard for her to understand that doing something wrong (e.g. doing drugs) does not make a person bad… she’ll grow out of it and eventually learn to be more flexible in her thinking… in the meanwhile, dont feel too awful about it, and definitely dont tell her you do drugs… (I would stay away from the alcohol part too), you might want to talk to her parents about what their preferred method of dealing with it is…

Answer #4

Aww =( Tell her it was a stupid and horrible mistake you made.
