False Juno

Ok… Here’s what I have. My family and I have 2 pugs. The oldest one is a fawn colored male and he’s 8 years old. The other one is a brindle colored female and she’s 3 years old.

We decided to try to have one litter of puppies before we have her fixed.

In February, she was in heat. Around 3 to 4 weeks later, in March, we notice that her nipples were swollen and a little saggy. We were anticipating the birth of the puppies. The date came and went with no puppies. We took her to the vet, and were told she had a false pregnancy.

Anyway, she was in heat again the last week of July, first weeks of August. She once again has the swollen and droopy nipples. She’s eating like she’s never fed. We have to feed them in different rooms, because she’ll eat his food too.

I’m afraid to get to excited about her being pregnant for fear that what happened the first time, will happen again. Has anybody experienced this with their pet, if so, did it occur two times in a row?

8 may be too old for the male. It’s possible that he is shooting blanks, or that his sperm is no longer strong enough to support a pregnancy. However, I would get your female a sonogram to see if she is pregnant.

Answer #2

Don’t get excited, get a sona-gram…that’ll tell the story.

PS…I’ve never met a Pug who DIDN’T act like they had been starved…and wouldn’t eat anything they found…from banana chips to leaves.

LoL on the food and Pugs.

Phrannie’s advice is good. I will say that just because she had a miss last heat, doesn’t mean she did this time ;) It is all a matter of days after all.

How old is too old for a Pug male? Is there such a thing?
