False gods

in the 10 commandments it says “you shall have no other false gods than me”. does that mean there are other REAL gods out there?

Answer #1

…that only how YOU interpret it… you don’t KNOW if your ‘interpretation’ is correct.

Answer #2

The bible teaches about the God who created the universe and all that is within it.

…so does the Torah, and the Quran…

Answer #3

Yes.. there are many “gods” in this world.

Some worship trees and nature.

Others statues made by human hands.

Some worship cows.

Some give allegiance to Satan.

Some worship spirits, and others angels.

Some worship money and others fame and attention.

Many desire others to worship them.

Men desire worship, and will go to any lengths to obtain it.

Many worship the human body.

Some worship their automobiles.

Each religion has its own god.

The bible teaches about the God who created the universe and all that is within it.

Answer #4

At the time the 10 commandments were written, every political entity had it’s own national god (or gods). The concept of seperating politics and religion had not yet even been considered. To worship a deity other than one of your national gods was equivalent to treason.

To the writers of that commandment, the other nation’s gods were every bit as real as their own national god YHWH, but it was treasonous to worship them.

Answer #5

Key word: False How can you ask I there are other real Gods out there because the Bible says FALSE Gods. total contradiction.

Where in the Bible does is say these other gods are ‘false’?

Answer #6

people can make “gods” out of anything…money, cars, anything that people place as more important to them in life then their walk w/ Christ is considered a god…

Answer #7

in my opinion, neither the christian god not any other god is real but there are still many, many different religions and with these, many different kinds of gods that people worship religious man wrote in the bible that you can only beleive in there god, because THEY beleived he was write, and every other religion was wrong

Answer #8

No there is no other gods. That command means:

  1. There is a God. Exo 20:2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

  2. That God is our creator Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day:

  3. We should have no other gods Exo 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

  4. The other gods that God is peaking of is not god but idols that people would worship in His place. Exo 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

No other gods exist and that is precisely the reason why He is upset when someone worships anything else that Him.

Answer #9

[COMMANDMENT THREE]

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

[COMMANDMENT FOUR]

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a [JEALOUS] God, [VISITING THE INIQUITY] of the fathers upon the children unto the THIRD AND FOURTH GENERATION of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Hmmm… He doesn’t say the ‘other’ gods are FALSE… but he DOES admit that he is JEALOUS of the other gods. And he is willing to curse a man’s FAMILY for generations, if he ‘hates’ him. But… jealous of what? Surely the ALMIGHTY… ONE… TRUE… GOD… wouldn’t be jealous of something that doesn’t exist… hmmm…

Answer #16

If there is one god it would be reasonable to believe that there could be an infinity. there were other gods that were believed to have existed in the times the Bible were written, the idea was that he was most powerful.

There is actually an idea that gods may have been aliens and their technologies were mistaken for divine entities. As plausible as that is, what is more believable is that the idea of gods were strictly fictional.
