What has your experience been with Kava Kava?

Answer #1

Several studies have found that kava may be useful in the treatment of anxiety, insomnia, and related nervous disorders.

However, there is serious concern that kava may cause liver damage. More than 30 cases of liver damage have been reported in Europe. It’s not clear whether the kava itself was the cause of the liver damage or whether it was taking kava in combination with other drgs or herbs. It’s also not clear whether kava is dangerous at previously recommended doses, or only at higher doses. Some countries have taken kava off the market. It remains available in the United States, but the FDA issued a consumer advisory in March of 2002 regarding the “rare” but potential risk of liver failure associated with kava-containing products. (See umm . edu under their tests for Kava Kava)

Because it is impossible to say what – if any – dose of kava might be safe, you should not take kava unless you are under a doctor’s close supervision.

Krav maga is israeli street defense, like miltary combat its moves are very deadly. Its a great martial art but it has to be taken seriously. I don’t think that martial arts school should be teaching it to just anyone. Like this new mma school that just opened up near where I live. They offer krav maga and then kids (bad kids; thugs, gangsters) hear it and they learn it. Then they think their all badasses and start picking fights, then people get hurt. I’m not saying that they shouldnt teach it or anything, I just mean that such a serious martial art (any) shoul be taught with some degree of responsibility

Omg I thoght u meant the martial art krav maga I feel so silly -

I’ve used Kava many times, I wasn’t really asking about the health background I was asking about personal experience haha but thanks for the info anyways :) And mixing Kava with alcohol is what has causees liver problems.

Answer #6

Kava? Like what they have in the pacific islands? Never tried it, not likely too. My friends say it just made their mouths numb and it sounded to me like going to the dentist!

Answer #7

It didn’t really do anything to help me sleep or for my anxiety. I took it in both a capsule form and as an extract suspended in alcohol. The latter of the two forms was the most effective…but honestly it seemed to be a better way to maybe flavor some nasty puddle water one might have to drink in the wild rather than to use it for any medical effect.

If you want something for anxiety, lack of sleep, etc., I would ask you dr about valium. You can take it and it will start helping you within 30-45 minutes.

If you are in a state where you are literally passed out from exaustion but still awake 0_o (oh I really hate those weeks/months) then maybe using Ambien 1-2 times a week might help you get emergency sleep. If you take it every day though it stops working all together.

Could you at least list one or two simptoms you are trying to fix with Kava Kava? I’m not a dr, but I am almost a walking pharmacy with the number of things I need to take, so I have a lot of experience giggle

Just don’t take anything without talking to some dr to make sure it will be ok with anything else you are already taking.

Hope you feel better! ^_^

Do you mean if you take a lot of Kava Kava with a lot of alcohol? It is commonly sold at herbalism type shops suspended in alcohol. (the alternitives are stuff like anti-freeze since water makes it start to break down)
