Why do I get so emotional when I'm drunk?

Whenever I get past a certain point I end up in hysterics and I do regrettable things. It’s not even like it’s drunk drunk, but I am a bit of a lightweight… I guess I wouldn’t mind to a certain extent but my best friend’s starting to get a bit pissy about it. I’m imposing a drinking ban for the time being, but I just don’t get why I cry so much :/

Answer #1

Well for one thing, there’s probably stuff you’re avoiding or ignoring. For another, alcohol reduces inhibitions. Without your brain telling you to avoid or ignore whatever you’re getting upset about, you go ahead and start feeling all that stuff.

Answer #2

your problems are coming up.and it is hard to deal with them especially drunk and mentally unstable.

Answer #3

Cos your intoxicated, and alcohol stuffs up your brain. If u don’t wana get emotional, don’t get drunk! simple!

Answer #4

Alcohol does that to people. I always say “Instant A.hole just add alcohol”

I worked in bars for almost 18 years and after seeing the behaviour of people when they were drunk I pretty well stopped drinking. I really wouldn’t want to behave so horribly myself. Now adays I drink 2-3 times a year and generally don’t have more than a glass or two.

Answer #5

Well, no. Not that simple. I’m not only emotional when I’m drunk obviously. I’m going through a lot at the moment and sometimes I cry myself to sleep - completely sober. So don’t judge. Your answer answered nothing except showing that prejudice clouds your judgement. So if you can’t give a real answer that doesn’t make a person feel like crap, just gtfo.

Answer #6

Well if you’re going through a lot talk to someone about it, someone u trust or a counsellor. No need to get all angry though, I was just being straight up. But I undersatnd where you’re coming from because recently I’ve been in the same situation as u emotionally, cept I don’t really drink much. But if you’re going through a tough time at the moment maybe lighten up on the alcohol for a while, and spend quality time with people who u value in your life, or talk to someone about what u r going through, because it helps a lot, honestly.

Answer #7

It’s been said that a drunk man’s words are a sober man’s thoughts. I’d say the same goes for women, eh?

Answer #8

The same happened to me when I used to drink. It messes with your mind, and your emotions. That’s why some people become very b!tchy when their drunk, some people become very happy and joyful, and some people become very depressed.. Usually if you drink with a lot of people, or a lot of close friends it helps to keep your mind out of the depressing stage.

Answer #9

If you read the question you’d see that I’ve got a drinking ban and I’m proud to say that I haven’t had a drop of alcohol in two weeks. And I can’t spend quality time with people who I value actually, ‘cause my mum won’t call/see me and she won’t let me see my little sister. My dad’s busy and my best friend lives two hours away. There’s no one here for me. So I’m coping best as I can and don’t judge me. It’s unbelievably hard.

Answer #10

Whenever I drink I’m usually with close friends, but I end up upset anyway. I don’t know. I think I’m just going to continue this drinking ban until my problems are sorted :/

Answer #11

Yeah that’s probably a good idea.. If you like drinking, save it for celebration, or holidays where it’s a happy time to drink. I hope you get everything sorted out! (:
