Dying gray hair blonde

I have dyed my completely gray head of hair brown for years, and am now considering going blonde. I will obviously have to strip my hair of the brown dye first and go from there, as it would take forever to let the gray grow out . Has anyone out there gone through this process, and how did it turn out? What shade of blonde works best on gray?

Blonde ??? why??? You should go to a hairdresser first because you don’t want mistakes…wierd colors…

I had dyed my grey hair brown and thought I’d have to grow it out. However, my hairdress did blonde highlights, using foils, and then the grey blended in with the blonde highlights and the brown. The result looks very modern.

Born a brunette, when I started getting some grays in my 40s, I always colored or had it colored a shade of brown. It was okay… but when I moved to California at age 56, I decided to have the dark stripped out and go blond as you are thinking of doing. I bought a blond wig at a shop in Hollywood used by the movie industry so it was pretty real looking so I knew how I would look. At first my hair was sort of a strawberry blond color (lightened first by a very reputable salon in Beverly Hills). With a few more salon lightenings, it was a nice light blond color. It was time consuming and expensive (cost about $50.00 a month to be blond) but I’m glad I did it. Being blond was something I had always wanted to try and it was fun…just time consuming and expensive so now my natural gray is the color of my hair. I am considering going back to the blond as I am only 62 and now single. On match.com I got 10X more interest using photos of myself blond than I did showing current photos. I looked a lot younger blond.

I’m not sure why. Probably because I’m bored out of my skull and need a change, and going blonde would be a huge change. It just sounds fun. I’m tired of the same old same old. I will definetely go to a hairdresser. I have never stripped my hair before and it sounds really harsh. My hair is burnt enough from dying it every month for the last 20 years.
