What do you mean with low maintenance?

Most small dogs are high maintenance. They require regular grooming, need to be inside the house, get cold easily, need special food etc.

Answer #4

low maintenance as in not needing to be with it constantly. i work and go to school, but i will be home to take care of it, play with it, ect., but i won’t be there all the time with it

Answer #5

That’s difficult. I know that Maltese aren’t as high maintenance then. Is it possible for you to get two dogs? so that they can keep each other company when you aren’t there?

Answer #6

i’m not sure about that. i thought about a cat, but they destroy furniture and i would never take my cat to go get declawed

Answer #7

my friend has a maltese.. she says they are quite high maintenence..

Answer #8

We had one and my friend also has two who are low maintenance. I suppose it really varies from dog to dog. I think a cat would be better, but yes they do claw on furniture.

Answer #14

In all honesty, i dont any dog is a low maintenance animal… when puppies they need love, attention, training, and someone constantly with them. Small dogs want more love & attention…i have had 2 miniature pincher dogs…both needed a lot of time, patience & supervision til they got older…then were able to be alone for a few hours but get all hyper & upset when we got home & wouldn’t stop barking, whining(sometimes peeing) & jumping til we calmed them down. Now we got a puppy doberman, same issues only bigger & more vulnerable…(she is only 5 months old) If you cant put in the time, effort & training then just do yourself a favor dont get a dog for now til you can!

hope that helped!

Answer #18

Answer #19

No dog is truely low maintance. No matter what age a dog needs attention and time with it’s owner. Also, cats aren’t the only animal that destroy furniture. Dogs do too. If they are left alone alot a dog will rebel and start to tear up carpet or sheets or pee. This a way to tell you they need attention. I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and she is 7 months. She is small and probably won’t get any bigger than 20 lbs. I love her but I give her a lot of attention too. She is an intelligent breed too. If you get a dog that is known to be intelligent they can be really destructive if you leave them alone alot.

Jack Russell Terrier, great little creatures. They can just lay around the house when your not home, but as soon as you get home they think its time to play!! I have 2 of them, sounds like the same situation that i have.
