Why is it that my dog sleeps at day and refuses to do anything else but at night it wont stop running around like a maniac??

I have a 5 month old toy poodle. He Only sleeps at day and doesnt sleep at night. Usually at 7pm he wakes up eats again and starts running around like a maniac and barks whenever we don’t want to play with him. He gets MORE than enough attention and eats 3 times a day.

Why is it that he only wants to sleep… Nothing I’ve tried to keep him awake helped, at all!

Maybe he thinks he is a rodent!!!!! That’s what they do lol

Dog’s sleeping patterns are quite weird actually.. Ur dog’s nt the only one who does that.. My dog ‘dodo’ does that too.. Usually dogs are alert in the night.. And they are lazy the all day.. Thats why people bring dogs to keep the burglers away.. Atleast ur dog sleep in the day.. Which charges him for the night.. Lol..

lol how much damage can a toy poodle do to burglar ?

Answer #4

Lol.. Yeh but that toy poodle should also have some self realisation that he’s just a poodle.. And dogs do get accomodated living with humans.. Ur toy poodle is just 5 mnths old right, give him some time he’ll accomodate to yous sleeping pattern accordinly.. :)

If he is normally left alone during the day - he may just sleep then out of boredom. If you are normally in the house at night he is pleased that you are home and runs round in excitement wanting to play and to indicate that he wants to go out for a walk.

If you have been home unexpectedly during the day to notice it, his body-clock is maintaining the normal pattern of activity.

He is never left alone

My cat was like this when she was younger (alright, it is natural for a cat, but I do have a point). I just kept locking her out of my room (yes, the howling was annoying, and I had to put up with it for months), and eventually she learned to be awake during the day when she could interact with me and sleep at night. Actually most nights she falls asleep before I do. If you take him out during the day so he can’t sleep, and refuse to engage with him after a certain point at night, he will learn. But it is a system of reinforcement which takes a while.

Oh and the most important thing about training - consistency. If you set a limit of 7pm as the latest you will play with him, and then cant resist his adorable face at 8pm, you will have to start at the beginning and will have lost all your training efforts. It is hard but you must be consistent.

You need to try getting him out for a walks during the day to help tire him out and change his sleep schedule around. He may not seem like he wants to, but I’m sure when you pull out his leash and get him going he’ll be all for it. If you have a dog park near you, try taking him to the dog park around 4-5pm. when its busy, he’ll have lots of other dogs to play with and get some good exercise.
