What's the best dog shampoo for dry irritated and stinky skin?

Answer #1

If your dogs skin is dry and irritated, it might actually be an indication that you should not bath him/her, it could just worsen the problem.

Rather take the dog to the vet and ask for some medication to help for their skin.

Answer #2

Well for his bread of dog dry irritated skin is normal, he a mini schnouzer and he get sore spots alot the vets just say to medicate them.

Answer #3

Maybe you should talk to the vet. I use baby shampoo with my cat, it’s really gentle on the skin and it cleans.

Answer #4

I have no idea if it is contraindicated with dogs though

Are you saying he has sores? Are they from licking the areas that itch? There are spray medications out there just for the lick sores….but you must be vigilent at the same time to remind him to stay off them. Even an E collar might help (depends on where they are).

For dry flakey skin…..Fish Oil caps, one a day in his dish….dogs love them…and they add the Omega 3’s and 6’s needed for healthy skin and coat.

Lay off the bathing….since he probably gets groomed every 6 to 8 weeks, that’s plenty of bath time for a dog.

Ok, in addition to what phrannie says, also try brewer’s yeast. We gave it to our dogs. It helped a lot for thei coats.
