What would you do if this was your dog?

I was just wondering, from anyone else who’s gone through this. My golden retriver is over ten years old and nearing the end of his life. It’s getting harder for him to move and all he does is sleep all the time. I know that very soon, he will have to be put down. We got him when he was a puppy and has been a part of our family since I was little. Did getting a new dog help you get over the passing of your dog? I’m just at a loss here..

Omg i know exactly how you feel: i got my golden retriever when i was 1 she was like the perfect dog. She would always cuddle and play. She was 1 year younger than me and her birthday was on easter. when she was 11. she started getting lazier, and it would hurt her to move. When we took her to the vet. We found out she had a toumer in her stomache, that couldnt be removed. We knew we couldnt make her suffer any longer. We had to put her down. It was very sad. I sitll miss her, and nothing will change that. About two years before she got put down, we got a chocoalate lab when he was 3 days old because of the owner. She nurtured him, as if he was her own. Long story short, Getting a new dog will not help all in all. It may help a little bit. If you really love your dog, it’ll never be replaced.

I think a new puppy will keep your mind off of it for a while, and you will grow to love it, just like you loved your Golden Retriever. That doesn’t mean you’ll forget about him…he will always be in your heart.

Answer #4

No getting a new dog doesnt replace the old one, give yourself time to mourn over your loss before getting a new dog, so you can be well equipped and emotionally prepared to give your new dog your undivided attention. Dont get a dog while this one is still alive, thats not fair, because it shouldnt have to deal with a puppy late in life.

no other animal will ever replace an animal tht u had so much love and respect for but SOMETIMES with the help of ppl and other animals u can wrk on getting over it but watch out u cud also respond with anger as well ………..

Answer #6

Getting a new dog won’t replace your dog. If anything it will make you upset. You should wait until you have fully grieved for your dog before getting a new animal.

I know how it feels, my two dogs are also in this state a recently my 18 year old cat died whom we’ve had since he was 2 my dogs were puppies when we got them rex a black lab is 12 and nikki a shetland sheepdog is 14 they are in bad health and when i think about it i always cry when my cat died i did things to keep him off my mind, we had him since before i was born, he was like a brother and he always wanted to snuggle, never scratched or bit us. it was a very hard loss, sometimes a puppy WILL help you keep your precious pet off your mind, think on the bright side and be optimistic, he wont suffer anymore and everyone and everything will die eventually. hope my story helps
