Does the iud make you gain weight?

I had the mirena iud for a year and never liked it. I had irregular periods, horrible cramping, extreme breast tenderness for 2 weeks and even after my period. I was irritable, moody and always had a weird feeling in my pelvis area. I’ve weighed about 150-160lbs for the past 6 years. I ballooned to 181 in 1 year. I’ve had it out for the past 2 months and the pain is gone, the periods are regular and the breast tenderness is mild, the sex drive is low and the weight is still there :( but my energy level is higher so im using that to my advantage hopefully in the next few months my body will even out and get back to normal.

so do you think if I have it removed I will lose weight?

I have had the IUD (Mirena) for about 6 months now. I’ve been trying very hard to lose weight after I had my baby. I had been losing weight until I got the IUD. I feel like this is stopping me from losing the weight I need to get back at my size. I’m seriously thinking of having it removed.

I have the Mirena IUD and I have had a horrible time, I have three kids and don’t want anymore so I haven’t had it removed, but I get sists every 6 months or so and they are extremely painful, I had an ultrasound and found out that it was a side affect from the IUD. I also gained around 25 lbs and diet and exercise have not been a effective as they were in the past after child birth. I have not had a period in over 2 1/2 years but I want to because I feel like I am going to explode soon. I do not recommend the Mirena IUD, it has 5% hormones and they do affect you even though the Doc said they wouldn’t.

I THINK IT’S GREAT! MY PERIODS ARE MUCH SHORTER THAN THEY USED TO BE. MY SEX DRIVE IS WAY UP. AND THE GREATEST THING IS I HAVEN’T GOTTEN PREGNANT SINCE I HAD IT PUT IN AFTER MY THIRD CHILD ALMOST THREE YEARS AGO. IT DOES HAVE A FEW DOWN SIDES TO IT BUT ANYTHING THAT WORKS IS GOING TO HAVE SIDE EFFECTS. PLUS, IF YOU CHANGE your MIND AND WANT TO HAVE ANOTHER BABY, YOU CAN GET PREGNANT AS SOON AS THE FIRST MONTH AFTER HAVING IT REMOVED.

I feel that the I.U.D. does make you gain weight. I-ve had it for 2 months and my pants dont fit me anymore. Before the I.U.D, I was a size 6 to 7 and now a 9 is tight for me. and not only I have put on but I feel my body has become shapeless, hips grown etc. Its awful. Gonna go remove it tomorrow and c if anything changes.

I had a iud ( paraguard) in for about 51/2 years just got it out about a week ago. I feel just great no more tender breast or disconfer I’m my stomach. I been losing weight ever since it was removed my clothes feel great. An I truly do believe that the iud makes you gain weight. if I would of known that I was going to gain 20 lb I would of never never put it in. I used to weight 120lb before inserted. I personal would not recomment it at all. Of any thing just condoms.

as anyone got anytink nice 2 say bout the marena???

That is one of the side effects of the IUD - I was terrified of weight gain after I had my son, that’s why I didn’t get the IUD and I went back on the pill.

yeah I do that. but like if I take it and also eat healthy and workout I wonder if that will make me lose faster.I wonder if the iud id making it hard for me to lose weight. im going to wait 6 more months and see what happens
