Does getting the Depo Provera shot hurt?

I currently take birth control pills, but I am thinking about switching to the depo provera shot instead. I find it to be more relieving to not have to worry about missing any pills or being on time.

Anyway, I guess my question is..just how much does the shot hurt? I’ve heard it hurts a lot. but I also heard the HPV shot hurts, and I dont think it does, except for a second.(but im a big and I mean BIG baby when it comes shots.)

I think you can get the shot in your arm or your buttocks, correct? Which one is better? Which hurts less? Please help me!!!

I find that it doesnt hurt until they actually inject the depo and afterwards I get pain in my lower back.. but that goes after a couple of hours and im fine.. it isn’t that painfull, just talk to your nurse whilst she’s doing the injection and it should be a breeze!

Answer #8

I got it on my arm and when the medicine is injected it kinda stings a little.. But the real pain comes after a couple hours. Your arm is sore and I can’t bare to move it.. And the huge bump it leaves on my arm. But a couple days after the pain and bump goes away. And I’m great when it comes to shots but this one..? Can’t stand it but its great.. No period and once every 3 months you get the shot so the pain is worth it
